Diana Coman – From Passion to Purpose: The Story of the Social Media Educator Redefining Digital Education

Interview with Diana Coman, digital communication specialist and founder of the “Profa de Social Media” project. Explore her journey, her mission to educate people online, and her vision on the future of authentic digital content.

Diana Coman is a digital communication specialist, a PhD in Communication Sciences, and a Social Media professor at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies – University of Bucharest, BISM, and The Entrepreneurship Academy. After more than 15 years in the creative industries, including the last four years as Regional Client Partner for Snapchat (Httpool by Aleph), she chose to turn her experience into a mission: helping people and businesses grow organically online through authentic content and digital education. Today, through her project @profadesocialmedia, she is building an engaged community and proves every day that social media can be a space for learning and inspiration, not just comparison.

C&B: If you were to look at the narrative thread of your career, what were the key moments that defined you?

Diana Coman: The first moment was getting accepted into FJSC, completely accidental and at the same time perfectly aligned with what I was meant to become. I was working as an aerobic gymnastics instructor on the beach in Costinești, and that’s where I met people from the Faculty of Journalism. Their energy won me over, we played ping pong together, and a few months later I was a student at FJSC.
Another important moment was when I won a creativity competition and got to attend the Cannes Lions festival. I had just started working in an advertising agency as an Account Executive, and the chance to see the most creative campaigns globally, to listen to speakers like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Will Smith, was extraordinary. I absorbed a huge dose of inspiration and it confirmed for me that advertising was an industry I wanted to work in.
The most recent defining moment was the decision to leave a stable job with a regional position and go independent. I did it with fear, but with immense excitement. And the results have left me speechless.

C&B: How did your story with social media begin, and when did you realize you wanted to turn this passion into a career and eventually a personal brand?

Diana Coman: For me, the biggest transformation came during my maternity leave. After more than 15 years of work, I finally paused and had time to reflect and ask myself questions I had long forgotten to ask: What do I enjoy doing the most? What am I good at? How can I create something truly valuable for people?

That’s how I started the @profadesocialmedia account on Instagram, TikTok, and later YouTube, where I explain how people can grow organically on social media. I started in February 2024, and the feedback I’ve received from the community so far has been extraordinary.

Everything came naturally. Initially, I only wanted to create educational content, but I started receiving questions: if I offer consulting services, if I teach courses. So little by little, I began monetizing this expertise.

As for whether it has become a personal brand or not, I think we should ask other people.

C&B: Has there been a dream or ambition that has always guided you, regardless of obstacles?

Diana Coman: Yes, I always wanted to be a teacher. Since my first years of university, the thought grew in me that I wanted to return to FJSC and create a course as relevant and connected to the job market as possible. I have managed to create many opportunities for my students, hiring more than 60 of them across various industries. The greatest joy is meeting them in different contexts and hearing about their journey.

C&B: What were you like at the beginning of your path, and how do you feel you’ve transformed since then?

Diana Coman: I was, and still am, a very curious person. Since my university years, I tested as many industries as possible to understand what suits me best. Another thing I’ve always heard is that I have contagious energy, and I’m happy that even after so many years, I still feel it and pass it on to the people I work with. That’s the kind of “viral” I want to create for many years to come.

C&B: If we were to meet your team or collaborators, what do you think they would say about you?

Diana Coman: I actually asked a few of them, and here’s what they answered:

“We would say that you are a top professional, but also a warm, present person, always attentive to people. You know how to see the details, but also the bigger picture, and you manage to guide us with clarity and confidence, without pressure. You always give us good advice and you know how to turn complicated things into something simple and logical. You inspire balance, calm, and good energy, and with you we truly feel like a real team.”
— Petronela Jercan, Founder of Pharma Cloud

“Diana is one of the best people I’ve ever met. She is the kind of person who, when she gives you a hand, she gives it wholeheartedly.”
— Adrian Nistia, UI/UX Designer

“When she gets an idea in her mind, I can’t escape it until she turns it into reality. It may take a day, it may take a year, but it always happens.”
— Claudiu Trusca, Head of Digital, Heist Industries

C&B: What is the most important decision you’ve made that changed your trajectory?

Diana Coman: Leaving a very good job to work independently. Now I do something that brings me joy every day, and that’s a big deal. The people I’ve had the chance to work with, the projects, the opportunities have exceeded any expectations I could have had. For example, tomorrow I’m flying to Brussels—I’ve been invited to give a speech about digitalization at the European Parliament. I know you will read the article later, but right now, as I’m writing this, I’m incredibly emotional.

C&B: How do you see the evolution of your role as a digital educator in a landscape where platforms and trends constantly change?

Diana Coman: My role is to be a filter between informational chaos and people’s real needs. Platforms change daily, but the principles stay the same: clarity, consistency, valuable content. The future isn’t about chasing trends but creating long-lasting content based on strategy, not impulse.

C&B: What does “authentic” content mean to you in the era of algorithms and instant virality?

Diana Coman: Authentic means having the courage to be yourself. It’s not about perfection but about truth. It’s that fine, coherent line between what you say, what you show, and who you really are.

C&B: What does an ordinary day look like for you now, and which moments bring you the most satisfaction?

Diana Coman: My mornings start without an alarm because our little boy wakes us up between 6:00 and 7:00. The fact that we start the day with him and talk about what we dreamed, and he immediately says, “I want us to play dinosaurs, you’re Mamozaur, daddy is Tepozaurus — I’m T-Rex!” makes everything else fade into the background. When I’m Mamozaur, I don’t have time to think about my tasks for the day, where I need to go, or what to wear. This playtime with my child is the most beautiful routine, connecting me to myself, to us, and to those moments I hope to enjoy more and more.

C&B: Is there a post, campaign, or moment from your platforms that confirmed you’re on the right path?

Diana Coman: A project I’m very proud of, and which received many awards, is Ghost Radars. The campaign aimed to reduce the number of road accidents and casualties during the Pentecost holiday in the 30 most dangerous areas in Romania. The campaign led to a 13% reduction in road accidents compared to the same period the previous year.

The mechanism was implemented through the Waze mobile app, used by millions of drivers, and involved placing fake radars in areas with the highest accident rates the previous year. With the help of the app’s representatives, the radars couldn’t be deleted or marked as “false.”

The fake radars were displayed along with a road safety message, reminding drivers to maintain speed limits at all times, not just when they see a radar.

C&B: What inspired you to create the “Profa de Social Media” concept, and how did you build such an engaged community around it?

Diana Coman: It started from a clear need: to simplify the overwhelming mix of information online and offer a practical guide for organic growth. I wanted to be the teacher I wish I had—someone who explains things clearly, practically, and with empathy.
The community grew naturally through consistency and sincerity. I didn’t chase trends; I consistently offered valuable content. People feel that, and they stay.

C&B: What advice would you give to content creators or entrepreneurs who are now building their voice online?

Diana Coman: I would tell them to start now. Don’t wait for the perfect moment, because it doesn’t exist. Being online isn’t just about exposing yourself; it’s about bringing value, inspiring, and connecting with people who might need exactly your message. Courage is built by doing. And every post is a step forward.

As an educator, creator, and visionary professional, Diana continues to inspire a new generation of creators and entrepreneurs to embrace courage, clarity, and consistency.
