Telekom Romania Mobile, initially known under the Cosmorom brand and part of Romtelecom, will be absorbed by its rivals Digi and Vodafone. The deal reduces the main players in the local telecom market from four to three and marks the definitive exit of the former fixed-line leader, a situation rarely seen in Europe.
With 3.5 million mobile customers – half of its peak in 2010 – and an operating profit of 1 million euros on revenues of 263 million euros in 2024, Telekom Mobile was sold for 70 million euros.
Digi will take over 1,5 million prepaid users
Digi will pay 40 million euros and take over 1.5 million prepaid users, while Vodafone will pay 30 million euros for 2 million subscribers, including business clients, along with the network of towers and infrastructure. The remaining stores and employees will be taken over by Vodafone.
