Hellas Direct Brings the Safe Roads Project to Bucharest: Children Safe at Every Pedestrian Crossing

After Brașov, Târgu Jiu, Oradea, and Piatra Neamț, the Safe Roads project initiative now reaches Bucharest. In a city with heavy traffic and insufficient road markings in many areas, children’s safety is often at risk. As the new school year begins, Hellas Direct decided to act where it matters most: on the daily routes of the little ones.

On the night of September 19–20, the pedestrian crossing in front of the “Anghel Saligny” Technical College in Sector 3 was completely renovated. The Safe Roads project transforms the areas around schools and kindergartens into safer spaces for students, parents, and teachers. Refreshed road markings, red anti-slip mats, and clear signage help prevent accidents and visibly increase children’s safety on the streets.

Over 30,000 Children Protected So Far

So far, the Safe Roads project has renovated 48 pedestrian crossings around 47 educational institutions, benefiting over 30,000 students. Alexis Pantazis, Co-founder and CEO of Hellas Direct, emphasizes: “Real safety doesn’t start with an insurance policy. It starts on the street, through prevention. Safe Roads project is our way of showing that we care, not only about clients but also about the future of the communities in which we operate.”

Cristina Călin, Communications Manager at the Child Road Safety Foundation, adds: “Children are the most vulnerable road users. With well-marked pedestrian crossings and preventive measures, we can provide them with a safer and more friendly environment when they go to school or on their way home.”

Expansion Plans

The Safe Roads project does not stop here. The initiative will continue with interventions in more cities across Romania, in collaboration with local authorities and sustained investments in road infrastructure. The goal is clear: a safer future for children, street by street.
