Doru Curoșu: Building Strong Leaders and Organizations by Investing in People

Interview with Doru Curoșu, founder of Camelot Partners – about authentic leadership, meaningful education, and the power of investing in people.

Doru Curoșu, founder of Camelot Partners, international trainer, mentor, and university lecturer, was included in Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe and, in 2024, ranked among the Top 10 most recognized Romanian entrepreneurs in the Diaspora. He is one of the most active promoters of creative education and innovative organizational culture in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

C&B: How would you describe yourself in one sentence, in a way that would make those who don’t know you curious?
Doru Curoșu: I’m a bold, sometimes crazy, but passionate young man in everything I do. I’m an explorer of human potential, passionate about creating contexts where people and organizations discover their inner strength and turn vision into performance. I believe every person should know their own leadership — their values, abilities, and clear purpose — to better navigate such a dynamic world.

C&B: Looking back at your career and business journey, what were the key moments that defined you?
Doru Curoșu: The first key moment was my involvement in national and international youth projects as a volunteer, starting with AIESEC, where I discovered the power of non-formal education and leadership. Later, I became President of the National Youth Council and then a board member at the European Youth Forum (YFJ). Volunteering offered me an enormous wealth of knowledge and unique experiences. The turning point came in 2016 when I was featured in Forbes, which led to the founding of Camelot Partners — the moment I decided to turn my passion for people development into a business. In recent years, recognition among the Top 100 Romanians worldwide and major projects with multinational companies have validated my direction and vision: I want to dedicate everything I do to youth education and helping people grow — both personally and professionally.

C&B: What has been the most difficult moment for Camelot Partners so far, and how did you overcome it?
Doru Curoșu: The toughest time was at the start of the pandemic when all events were canceled overnight. We lost contracts, team members, and a lot of time and energy trying to recover. Of course, the bright side is that we innovated enough to become functional in any crisis. We overcame the situation by reinventing ourselves — we adapted our training programs to digital formats, created online interactive games and exercises, and proved that we could remain relevant even in uncertain times. We created unique content for our Team Building programs, training sessions, mentoring, and video courses.

C&B: Is there a dream or ambition that has always guided you, no matter the obstacles?
Doru Curoșu: Yes — my dream is to build communities of brave, creative, and united people who believe in the power of collaboration and positive change. This ambition has always kept me focused despite difficulties. There’s also a personal motivation: I want to know that I am relevant and useful where I get involved, that I can offer opportunities to others, help them rediscover themselves, and become better — regardless of age.

C&B: How did you look at the beginning of your journey, and how do you feel you’ve transformed over time?
Doru Curoșu: At the beginning, I was an enthusiastic young man full of energy, maybe less disciplined in planning. I was excited by the experience itself rather than having a clear direction. Today, I’m much more balanced, with a clearer vision, a built strategy, and a deep understanding of how people learn and transform. I’m aware of what I can offer and deeply committed to bringing visible change.

C&B: If we asked your team or collaborators about you, what do you think they’d say?
Doru Curoșu: They’d probably say I’m relaxed but demanding — that I bring energy and inspiration to every activity. They might wonder where I get so much energy from every day and how I constantly push my limits, yet still create a safe space for testing new ideas. They’d say I’m always in search of innovation and give the team freedom to bring new ideas. I value loyalty and dedication and don’t get along well with lazy or unmotivated people.

C&B: What is the most important decision you’ve made that changed your trajectory?
Doru Curoșu: The decision to return home after seven years of international experience and build my own brand — Camelot Partners and Camelot Events. It was a long-term, high-impact choice. I invested in a market that was just emerging but managed to create something authentic and recognized. We’ve been appreciated both in the Republic of Moldova and in Romania for our visible impact.

C&B: How do you manage to adapt your training and team-building programs to the diverse needs of clients from different industries?
Doru Curoșu: We always start with ourselves — we try to imagine what we would like to experience as employees. Then, we conduct a diagnosis to understand the client’s organizational culture, team challenges, and business objectives. We design customized experiences, blending theory with practical exercises and meaningful symbols for the company. There’s no standard format — every program is uniquely designed. It’s a challenge, but we always aim to become part of the client’s Organizational Culture and be seen as colleagues, not just external trainers.

C&B: How did you build the philosophy behind Camelot Partners, and what sets it apart in the HR, training, and team-building market in Romania and Moldova?
Doru Curoșu: Our philosophy starts from the belief that people learn best through experience and strong, positive emotions. What differentiates us is that every event has a story, a narrative thread, and a symbolic component. We don’t just deliver activities — we create memorable experiences that stay with teams long after the event because they become lived stories, not just checked boxes.

Our slogan, “Investing in People. Your People, Your Fortress.”, is not just a branding line — it’s our business philosophy. We believe the strongest fortress of a company isn’t its infrastructure, technology, or capital, but the people who build and sustain it every day. When you invest in people, you don’t just give them tools — you activate their potential, loyalty, creativity, and resilience. A prepared and connected team becomes both the shield and the engine of an organization — a true fortress in the face of change, crisis, and competition.

Our USP comes directly from this philosophy: we don’t design programs “for employees” but with and through the people who are part of the culture. We don’t sell “training” or “team building” — we deliver strategic development through experience, where stories, symbols, and company objectives are integrated into every event’s design. That’s why we say we don’t bring activities, but meaning, energy, and collective identity.

C&B: What does a typical day look like for you now, and what moments bring you the most satisfaction?
Doru Curoșu: Simply put, no day is ever typical for me.
My day starts early with family and ends late — with sports. During the day, I have meetings, training sessions, or I’m preparing offers and concepts for clients. Twice a week, I teach at the university as a professor. I spend 3–4 hours daily at the office, glued to my laptop. I try not to have too much free time — I can’t sit still without doing something. For this reason, I often get invited to schools around the country as a speaker, and I always accept with pleasure — it’s my way of investing in future generations.

What brings me the most joy are the moments when I receive direct feedback from participants — that’s when I truly feel my work has meaning.

C&B: What values or principles guide you in what you do, and how do you apply them daily?
Doru Curoșu: Authenticity, courage, trust, and continuous learning are my constant pillars.
Authenticity helps me stay true to my mission and build genuine relationships, not just transactional collaborations. Courage pushes me out of my comfort zone, to experiment and propose unconventional concepts even when the market isn’t ready. Trust in people drives me to invest in teams, clients, and partners — not only as professionals but as potential and character.

And learning — both personal and collective — is the foundation of everything. Every project, every piece of feedback, and every challenge becomes a growth resource. I don’t believe in top-down development but in a continuous process of discovery, adaptation, and evolution together with the people I work with.

C&B: How did the idea of starting this business and naming it come to you?
Doru Curoșu: It all started from my passion for people and experiential education, but its roots are clear: AIESEC. There, I learned — without realizing it at the time — almost everything I apply in business today. I was part of the HR and trainer teams, and that environment gave me my first real laboratory for leadership, people development, and teamwork. It was where I learned how to build processes, motivate people, and generate change through experience, not theory.

In 2012, a defining moment came. A company noticed me during some training activities and invited me to deliver a free program for their management team. I accepted without hesitation — not for money, but for the opportunity to test what I knew I could do. They loved it, the impact was immediate, and their recommendation to other organizations practically became the official start of my journey as a professional trainer. From there, everything flowed naturally: new invitations, bigger projects, diverse teams, and the first corporate collaborations.

That’s how Camelot Partners gradually emerged — not overnight. The name “Camelot” comes from the legend of the Knights of the Round Table — a symbol of collaboration, equality, and courage. I wanted each project to be a modern “Camelot,” where people feel part of a common mission, not just participants in a training session. Since then, we’ve kept the same essence: we work with meaning, build living experiences, and help people become the fortress of their own organizations.

C&B: What project are you most proud of within Camelot, and what impact has it had on participants?
Doru Curoșu: “The project we’re most proud of is undoubtedly the ‘Super Heroes of Moldova’ initiative — a year-long academic program where we visit schools and universities to identify the most talented and remarkable young people and award them at the end.”

This project was born from a simple idea: to offer not just recognition, but also a platform — an inspirational engine for young people who excel in areas like education, art, social projects, and innovation. Over the editions, the “Super Heroes Gala” has awarded 20 remarkable young people in a ceremony attended by over 300 participants.

Its impact on participants and the broader ecosystem:

Motivation and visibility: The awarded youth gained public recognition, which boosted their confidence and opened opportunities — scholarships, collaborations, networking, or invitations to new projects.
Inspiration for peers: The event became a benchmark — other students started aspiring to the “Super Learner” title, creating their own projects and striving for excellence.
Community building: Through local visibility and media coverage, we created a community of passionate young people who support one another. In the second edition, 20 young people were awarded, and the project community grew significantly.
Replicability: The project became a model for civic and educational engagement that can be adapted and expanded to other regions or countries — proof that our mission, “investing in people,” can resonate beyond the corporate world.
Internal learning and growth: For us — the Camelot team and our collaborators — this project has been a continuous laboratory: we test mobilization, communication, mentoring, storytelling, and feedback techniques.

In short, the “Super Learners / Super Heroes of Moldova” project isn’t just a gala — it’s a process of discovery, celebration, and empowerment for talented youth. We’re proud that many of those awarded later became leaders and project initiators, proving our philosophy right: by investing in people, we build the foundation of a stronger society and stronger organizations.

C&B: How do you see the future of HR and training or team-building programs in the context of digitalization and hybrid work?
Doru Curoșu: I believe the future of HR will no longer rely on administration or reaction but on strategy, influence, and smart investment in people. The companies that will thrive are not those that “check the box” for training but those that understand team development as a competitive advantage, not a cost. HR becomes a true business partner only when it dares to build people, not replace them when challenges arise.

In this context, training and team-building programs will not disappear — they’ll evolve. Hybrid formats combining offline, digital, and immersive experiences will offer accessibility, flexibility, and continuity. But regardless of the tools, the core remains the same: people. Emotion, interaction, team identity, and belonging cannot be fully digitized.

This is where our philosophy comes in and why I firmly believe in our slogan: “Investing in People. Your People, Your Fortress.”
For us, it’s not a marketing line but a deep conviction: the only real fortress of a company is its people. Well-prepared, emotionally connected, engaged, and valued individuals create stability, innovation, and resilience. Without them, any strategy, process, or technology remains fragile.

Through Camelot Partners programs, we aim to prove that investing in people pays off in the most tangible ways — through productivity, retention, a healthy culture, internal leadership, reputation, and profit. Our motto doesn’t just inspire participants but also managers and leaders who begin to see their teams as strategic assets, not consumable resources.

The future of this industry belongs to those who don’t “train people after problems arise,” but to those who build a human fortress in advance — through experiential education, organizational culture, trust, and real partnership.

That’s why, no matter how digital work becomes, we stay grounded in a simple, essential idea: technology can support performance, but people are the ones who make it possible.

His story proves that investing in people is the most reliable strategy for growth — both in business and in life. Through Camelot Partners, he continues to inspire generations of professionals and to show that when education has meaning, performance naturally follows.
