Kaufland: 18,000 employees, one team – how the retailer became Romania’s largest private employer

From 7 employees to 18,000: two decades of growth
In just twenty years, Kaufland Romania has grown from 7 employees to nearly 18,000, becoming the country’s largest private employer and a consistent presence in Romania’s corporate rankings.
Between 2015 and 2024, the company contributed an annual average of €314 million to the state budget through payroll-related taxes — €220 million paid by employees and €94 million by the employer.
