Attorney Alexandra-Gabriela Velican: 16 Years of Experience and Dedication in Law

Discover the professional journey of attorney Alexandra-Gabriela Velican, with over 16 years of experience in the Bucharest Bar, specializing in civil and criminal law, dedicated to integrity and client success.

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela is currently the principal attorney of her own Law Office, with 16 years of experience practicing law within the Bucharest Bar Association. She primarily works as a litigation lawyer, providing legal assistance and representation before courts of law, while also offering specialized legal consulting and representation before competent authorities. She has successfully practiced in the fields of civil and criminal law and has handled numerous court cases, a significant majority of which were concluded successfully. In addition, she provides free legal assistance as a court-appointed defense attorney. The “Velican Alexandra-Gabriela” Law Office has cooperation agreements with other law firms specialized in various areas, including criminal law, international law, labor law, and social security law.

C&B: If we were to look at the narrative thread of your career, what were the key moments that defined you?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
I confess that initially I wanted to pursue a career as a magistrate, as I was fascinated by criminal law and forensics. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest, during my master’s studies in “Judicial Career,” I decided to complete an internship at a law firm, as it was the only “unexplored” field for me, after having worked at the Bucharest Tribunal and completed internships at courts, prosecutor’s offices, and notary offices. However, after just one year, I fell in love with legal practice and have remained dedicated to this field throughout my career.

C&B: What has been the most difficult moment in your journey so far, and how did you overcome it?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
Although I become emotionally involved in all my clients’ cases (even though I shouldn’t), there was one in particular that deeply affected me. A fellow lawyer had been accused of an offense he had not committed, and I fought alongside him until the very last moment, managing to prove his innocence. I consider this my greatest success, together with my colleague, as it was the biggest judicial abuse we managed to prevent.

C&B: Is there a dream or ambition that has always guided you, regardless of obstacles?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
To always be fair, regardless of the situation, and to remain dedicated to my profession and my clients.

C&B: What were you like at the beginning of your journey, and how do you feel you have evolved since then?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
At the beginning, I was more enthusiastic, full of energy, and perhaps a little too trusting. I have certainly become a more confident and experienced lawyer. I now see the problems within the legal system more clearly, but I know that, at least sometimes, even in small ways, I can make a difference.

C&B: If we met your collaborators, what do you think they would say about you?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
My colleague, who is also my best friend since first grade, would say that I should be tougher with clients and stop offering so many free legal consultations. I am convinced that all my collaborators appreciate me. I am very sociable and always willing to help others.

C&B: What is the most important decision you have made that changed your trajectory?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
I was already a fully qualified lawyer, yet I remained a collaborating attorney within a law firm because I lacked the courage to start my own practice, mainly due to financial instability. I received a forced push when that firm dissolved following the death of the principal lawyer—a moment that deeply affected me. In the end, however, it was a much-needed step forward that propelled my career.

C&B: How did you develop your leadership style and decision-making approach? Was it natural or learned?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
I am not sure I can say that I have a leadership style. I do, however, have my own way of leading—by example, teaching others with patience but also with high standards. I always make decisions rationally, not emotionally, by carefully weighing the advantages and disadvantages.

C&B: What does a typical day look like for you now, and which moments bring you the greatest satisfaction?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
My days usually involve a lot of running around. I like to stay active, I walk thousands of steps daily between courts, meet with clients, and draft documents at the office. Every day is different—you never know what might come up.

The greatest satisfaction comes when I receive a positive outcome in a case and can share the good news with my clients. Even more rewarding is when clients sincerely thank you for your work and dedication.

C&B: What values or principles guide you in your work, and how do you apply them daily?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
Since childhood, I have been extremely honest and have always valued keeping one’s word. I believe honesty and perfectionism define me most. I always tell my clients in advance what their real chances of success are; I do not like making empty promises. Everything must be perfect, every detail in place, otherwise, I am not satisfied.

C&B: If you were to share a message with those who follow your example, what would it be?

Velican Alexandra-Gabriela:
Always do what you love. My parents insisted that I pursue a career in finance and banking, following in their footsteps, but I knew from the age of eight that I would become a lawyer. I have always liked the saying that if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. That is how I feel. Even though I work very hard every day, I feel rewarded because I love what I do, and I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.

Alexandra-Gabriela Velican’s professional journey reflects passion, perseverance, and a deep respect for justice. From her early aspirations toward a career in the judiciary to building her own law practice, each stage has contributed to shaping a dedicated, honest, and results-oriented attorney. Through her professionalism, constant involvement, and respect for her clients, she brings real value to every legal endeavor. Her message to future generations remains simple yet powerful: follow your calling with integrity and passion, because true success comes from doing what you love.
