New films by acclaimed directors, including Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Corneliu Porumboiu and Tatiana Huezo, are among the first 14 feature films selected for funding by the Film Fund of the Fundația Prada, according to Variety.
The fund was officially launched in Venice last year with a total budget of €1.5 million, aimed at supporting independent cinema worldwide without thematic or language restrictions.

Out of more than 1,200 submissions, projects from 26 countries across five continents were selected. Of the 14 feature films, four are in development, nine in production and one in post-production. The selection includes six women directors and eight men, as well as two debut features.
“The quality and experimentation of the selected projects demonstrate the dynamic and diverse nature of contemporary independent cinema,” said Miuccia Prada, owner of the Prada Group and director of the Prada Foundation.
“Through the Film Fund, we aim to support filmmakers, especially those most in need of concrete assistance to bring their vision to life. (…) The Prada Foundation intends to continue promoting the idea of a free, demanding and visionary cinema,” she added.
The fund provides support for development, production and post-production, with a maximum grant of €250,000 per production project.
