Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, is joining OpenAI to help develop the next generation of personal agents. The announcement was made on X by the company’s CEO, Sam Altman, and later reported by Economedia.

According to the announcement, OpenClaw will remain an open-source project supported by OpenAI, with a strategic focus on multi-agent systems designed to collaborate and deliver useful services to users.
Moltbook, online conspiracies and the origins of OpenClaw
In recent weeks, Moltbook gained traction on social media as a network allegedly designed for AI agents. Some narratives described it as “for AI programs,” “forbidden to humans,” or as a space where a “revolution against humanity” was being prepared.
In fact, Moltbook is a website launched quickly by a semi-anonymous entrepreneur based near Los Angeles. It went viral through sensational headlines and promotion by public figures and influencers, including individuals associated with the far right. The so-called “AI revolution” turned out to be a series of elaborate hoaxes taken at face value.
According to an analysis by TIME Magazine, Moltbook operates using software developed in 2025 by Austrian entrepreneur Peter Steinberger. The system allows technically skilled users to connect AI systems such as Claude from Anthropic or ChatGPT from OpenAI into a digital framework that extends their capabilities. It enables continuous operation, online actions and automated updates via platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp.
Initially called Clawdbot, then Moltbot, the project is now known as OpenClaw. The coordinated agents are still referred to as moltboți or “moltys.” Moltbook was created by Matt Schlicht as a space where these agents can interact.
