Banca Transilvania ranks as the most valuable Romanian banking brand in the Brand Finance Banking 500 ranking for 2026, with a brand value of $1 billion, up 6% year-on-year, according to information published by Ziarul Financiar.
Globally, the bank ranks 224th by brand value, maintaining its leadership position among Romanian banks.
The second most valuable Romanian banking brand is BCR, ranked 406th globally, with a brand value of $333 million, up 17% compared to 2025. BRD – Groupe Société Générale also appears among the top 500 banking brands worldwide.
Competition between traditional and digital banks
Beyond brand value, Banca Transilvania is also considered the strongest banking brand in Romania, based on Brand Finance indicators such as credibility, attractiveness and customer recommendation levels.
In the local brand strength ranking, Revolut ranks second, followed by ING in third place.
Globally, the total value of the 500 most valuable banking brands reached $1.8 trillion in 2026, representing a 10% increase compared to the previous year.
The global ranking is led by Chinese banks, with ICBC in first place, followed by China Construction Bank and Bank of China, while US institutions such as Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase remain in the top 10. British bank HSBC has re-entered the top 10 for the first time since 2019.
Digital-first banks continue to reshape the market. Nubank ranks fourth among the strongest banking brands globally, while Revolut remains one of the fastest-growing brands, reaching a brand value of $6.6 billion after a 239% increase in 2026.
