Amazon is developing a new smartphone focused on artificial intelligence, more than a decade after the failed Fire Phone project, according to Reuters, cited by TechCrunch and Economedia.
The device, internally known as “Transformer”, is being developed by the Devices and Services division and will include features designed to support the Amazon ecosystem.
AI integration and ecosystem
The new phone will be built around Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, recently upgraded with generative AI capabilities.
The smartphone is expected to integrate with services such as Amazon Shopping, Prime Video, and Prime Music, making it easier for users to access the company’s platforms.
Development and strategy
The project is led by the ZeroOne unit, a relatively new division headed by J Allard, a former Microsoft executive involved in the creation of the Xbox.
The initiative is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to invest heavily in AI technologies.
Context and evolution
Amazon has recently upgraded its Alexa assistant with the launch of Alexa+, which can perform tasks similar to other AI tools, including planning activities, making recommendations, and assisting with daily tasks.
The company has declined to comment on the reported project.
