Apple may unveil its first foldable iPhone in September, with market release scheduled for the end of the year

Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone, unofficially referred to as iPhone Fold, which is expected to be unveiled in September alongside the Pro models of the iPhone 18 series. According to a report by Barclays, the device’s market availability could be delayed until December.

Shift in launch strategy

The company appears to be moving away from its traditional launch strategy, where all models in a lineup were announced and released simultaneously. According to multiple industry sources, Apple may adopt a phased rollout approach.

In this scenario, only the premium models and the first foldable device would be introduced in September, while the rest of the lineup would follow at the beginning of next year. This suggests a reconfiguration of the commercial calendar, with a stronger focus on the high-end segment.

Delayed availability for iPhone Fold

The differences extend beyond the announcement timeline to actual market availability. Typically, Pro models reach stores within a few weeks after launch.

However, the iPhone Fold is expected to become available only in December, indicating potential production challenges or a deliberate market positioning strategy.

Ultra-premium positioning and technological innovation

The first foldable iPhone is anticipated to be an ultra-premium product, with an estimated price ranging between $1,800 and $2,500.

Industry sources suggest that Apple may have developed a technical solution to eliminate the visible crease of the screen, using a dual-layer thin glass structure designed to protect the display and reduce interaction with the hinge mechanism.

Entering a competitive segment

With this product, Apple is entering a segment previously dominated by other foldable smartphone manufacturers, relying on technological differentiation and strengthening its presence in the premium market.
