Google launches new feature: travelers can share lost luggage location directly with airlines

Google has introduced a new feature in its Find Hub app that allows travelers to send the exact location of lost luggage directly to airlines via a secure link. The information was reported by Mediafax.

The launch comes amid a high number of global incidents. According to SITA, 33.4 million bags were lost or delayed in 2024, representing 6.3 bags per 1,000 passengers, as cited by 20minutos.

How the system works

The feature is available in the Find Hub mobile app for Android users. It requires a compatible tracking device placed inside the luggage.

If a bag is lost, the user can generate a secure link showing its real-time location and share it directly with the airline.

Direct airline integration

Unlike similar solutions, Google’s feature enables direct location sharing with airlines, eliminating the need for additional communication with airports.

It is comparable to Apple’s AirTag system, but offers more seamless integration with airline services.

Privacy and control

The app includes privacy features, allowing users to stop location sharing automatically once the bag is recovered or manually at any time.

Airlines can access the location only for the duration necessary to recover the luggage, ensuring greater control over personal data.
