Alin Radu – From Corporate Life to Doctor SKiN, a Brand That Puts People First

Discover the story of Alin Radu, founder of Doctor SKiN, a Romanian brand built on trust, care, and vision. A true example of authentic leadership and innovation in medical aesthetics.

Alin Radu is a perfectionist who left behind the comfort of a corporation to build something into which he poured all his ambition and soul: a brand that places quality and trust above all else, because it is for and about people — Doctor SKiN.

C&B: If we were to look at a narrative thread of your career or business, what were the key moments that defined you?

Alin Radu: My story has three main chapters where things were the most spectacular in terms of challenges.

The first was at Suzuki Romania, where I was General Manager for almost ten years. But it wasn’t a position I took over in an already established company, because Suzuki simply didn’t exist on the Romanian market at that time. We had to build it from scratch — to form the team, convince partners, and gain customers’ trust step by step. That’s where I learned one of the most valuable business lessons: reputation is not something anyone gives you; you build it yourself, day by day, through consistency and results.

The second defining moment was when I completely changed direction and entered the beauty industry. Many were surprised and asked me what the connection could be between the automotive industry and aesthetics. The truth is, there’s more than it seems. In both fields, it’s about care, maintenance, and attention to detail. The real motivation, however, came from my wife, who had been searching for years for a clinic where she could feel respected and where results were real, not just promised. Since we couldn’t find that place, we decided to build it ourselves under the Doctor SKiN brand.

The third chapter is one of growth. From the Doctor SKiN clinic in Drumul Taberei, we’ve grown into a network of six clinics and a team of over one hundred people — all in just over six years. Looking back, I realize the pace was intense, but I believe it was possible because we had a clear vision from the start and never strayed from it: real quality, respect for the patient, and a team that grows together with the brand.

C&B: What motivated you to invest in the medical aesthetics field and how did you manage to turn an idea into a trusted national brand?

Alin Radu: It all started from a personal frustration that eventually became a genuine motivation. My wife had been searching for years for a clinic where she felt she was getting exactly what she was promised. She paid for premium services, but the results often fell short. What bothered her most was the lack of respect toward patients — no one seemed to care about her feedback, and her opinions were treated as unimportant details.

We realized that if this approach frustrated us, it likely frustrated others too. So, we decided to build a different model — one based on real quality and genuine care for the patient. At a time when most clinics were investing heavily in image, exclusive locations, and aggressive marketing, we chose to invest in what truly matters: high-performance, certified medical equipment and a team of skilled, empathetic professionals passionate about their work.

We opened the first Doctor SKiN clinic in Drumul Taberei, inside a shopping center — a choice that surprised many. We were told it was risky, that people wouldn’t come for aesthetic treatments in an ordinary neighborhood. But we saw exactly what we were looking for: accessibility, free parking, extended hours, and most importantly, patients who genuinely wanted results, not just perfect images for social media.

We also invested heavily in public education. We began openly explaining what each procedure involves, its benefits, risks, and real limitations. We put great effort into our online presence — detailed website descriptions, articles, and guides — and we were among the first to talk about the differences between safe, certified technologies and outdated or uncertified ones, because every patient deserves to know what they’re investing in. We didn’t sell illusions; we told the truth, both the good and the bad. And, paradoxically, that turned out to be the best marketing possible — it built, and continues to build, trust.

C&B: Is there a dream or ambition that has always guided you, regardless of obstacles?

Alin Radu: Yes, and it’s surprisingly simple: I want every person who walks through our door to leave happier than when they arrived. Not just with smoother skin or a more toned body, but with a sense of well-being and regained confidence.

Our mission from the very beginning was to help people achieve real results so they could feel better about themselves — physically, emotionally, and often mentally. It may sound idealistic, but it’s true. Beauty is not just about aesthetics; it’s about inner balance and how you feel when you look in the mirror.

The same philosophy guided me during my time at Suzuki. I always had a somewhat stubborn ambition to build things of quality that bring people genuine satisfaction. Today, that principle remains the same. Whether I’m choosing new equipment or discussing a new treatment with the team, the key question is always simple: what does this actually bring to the patient? If the answer is clear and meaningful for them, then I know we’re heading in the right direction.

C&B: How were you at the beginning of your journey, and how do you feel you’ve changed since then?

Alin Radu: I was shaped in a very structured world, with clear plans and a predictable rhythm. In the corporate environment, I had plenty of decision-making freedom, but always within the boundaries set by group strategy. It was an efficient, but rigid system.

Today, I know that plans are just guidelines, and sometimes instinct and intuition weigh more than any analysis. As an entrepreneur, you have to invest infinitely more in relationships with your employees; otherwise, they can’t understand or apply your business vision.

I’ve also learned to make decisions quickly. Our industry evolves constantly — new technologies and trends appear every year — and if you overthink, you lose opportunities.

But what truly makes the difference for me is the direct impact of our work. I see people transforming before our eyes — regaining confidence, overcoming long-term issues like acne, excess weight, scars, or hirsutism. You can’t remain indifferent when you see tears of joy and gratitude. That’s something I’ve experienced, and continue to experience, only at Doctor SKiN.

C&B: If we were to meet your team or collaborators, what do you think they would say about you?

Alin Radu: I think they’d say I’m quite demanding. I have high standards — maybe sometimes unreasonable — but always with justification. It’s not perfectionism for the sake of image, but for patient safety and results, which depend on every detail.

They’d probably also say that I invest a lot in them. We have ongoing training, regular evaluations, and real feedback. I firmly believe that no matter how advanced the technology, it’s worthless without well-prepared people. It’s like having a Ferrari but no driver’s license.

They’d also say that I listen. I encourage them to tell me when they disagree or have better ideas. I don’t claim to know everything. I see myself as good at strategy and vision, but our doctors and specialists are the ones who turn ideas into results, day after day.

Most of all, I hope they believe we’re a team, not a hierarchy — that everyone contributes to what we’re building together. Above all, I think we’re united by one thing: we genuinely care about the people who walk through our doors. And that, to me, is the greatest satisfaction.

C&B: What’s the most important decision you’ve made that changed your trajectory?

Alin Radu: Without a doubt, it was the moment I decided to leave my corporate career and start Doctor SKiN. It might seem natural now, but back then it wasn’t simple at all. I had a solid job, a respected status, and a stability many people seek all their lives. And yet, after nearly ten years, I felt the need to build something of my own — a project where I could use not only my knowledge and experience, but also the values I truly believe in.

At the time, it seemed like a crazy decision. Not only did I leave a secure system, but I also chose to do things completely differently from what was “normal” in the market. While everyone else opened clinics in exclusive areas, we opened in an ordinary neighborhood. When others invested heavily in influencers, we invested in cutting-edge medical equipment and team training. And when many promised instant, spectacular results, we chose honesty — explaining clearly what can and can’t be done, and that real results take time.

Many voices told us it wouldn’t work, but experience taught me that sometimes the difference lies exactly in going against the current. Looking back, I believe that moment was less about giving up something safe and more about having the courage to create my own path, guided by the belief that when you do things right and with purpose, results will inevitably follow.

C&B: How have you integrated cutting-edge technology into your services, and how does it contribute to the patient experience?

Alin Radu: In our field, technology isn’t a detail — it’s the foundation on which patient safety and trust are built. And today, more than ever, the beauty market is full of temptations and traps. There are countless pieces of equipment that imitate originals, sold at a fraction of the price and marketed as being just as good.

But the difference between authentic medical equipment and a cheap imitation can mean the difference between a successful result and a serious health complication.

Unfortunately, aesthetics isn’t regulated at the level it should be, leaving room for a lot of improvisation. But that freedom doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want. On the contrary, I believe that this lack of regulation morally obliges us to be even more careful, transparent, and responsible.

That’s why, at Doctor SKiN, we established a clear principle from the start: patient safety is the main criterion for every decision. We use only original, certified, and clinically tested medical equipment from internationally recognized manufacturers. We make no compromises, regardless of market pressures.

At the same time, we constantly invest in people, because even the best equipment is useless without well-trained specialists who know not only how the technology works, but also its limits. I firmly believe that respect for the patient also means knowing when to refuse a treatment if it’s not safe or suitable for them.

For us, technology means not just faster results, but ethics, responsibility, and trust. It’s how we prove that beauty can be treated with medical seriousness, respect, and genuine care for those who place their health in our hands.

C&B: What have been the key growth moments for Doctor SKiN, and how have you adapted to the increasingly complex demands of clients?

Alin Radu: There were a few moments when we truly felt we were taking a leap, not just expanding. The first came after about two years when we opened the dermatology center. We noticed that many patients came with issues beyond pure aesthetics — severe acne, scars, or dermatological conditions in children. It became clear we had to offer more than aesthetic solutions, so we brought dermatologists into the team and integrated medical expertise into everything we do.

The second important moment came three years later with the launch of our specialized cellulite treatment center. It was a real challenge since cellulite is often seen as impossible to treat effectively. We invested time, research, and discussions with equipment manufacturers, doctors, and specialists abroad. We tested, combined technologies, and developed our own protocols. The satisfaction was immense when we began to see results where others said it couldn’t be done.

The pandemic was another turning point. 2020 was, let’s say, interesting. But for us, it was also a confirmation — because we already had very high hygiene standards and strict protocols, we didn’t have to reinvent everything overnight, just strengthen what we were already doing. It was a tough period, but it reinforced our principles and way of working.

The most recent growth wave was expanding to three new locations in Bucharest: Pipera, Popa Nan, and Fabrica de Glucoză. Each new clinic brought challenges — new teams to train, more complex processes — but also great joy: being closer to people and offering them the same high-quality experience they’ve come to appreciate.

As for adaptation, the secret is simple: we listen. A lot. We receive daily feedback, photos, questions, and suggestions from patients. We constantly analyze their needs, behavioral changes, and where we can add more value. We regularly attend international fairs and conferences to personally test new technologies and stay connected to innovation and global trends.

I believe true growth comes from listening to your clients, responding honestly, and giving them exactly what they need in the safest, fairest, and most responsible way possible.

C&B: What does a typical day look like for you now, and which moments bring you the most satisfaction?

Alin Radu: My days rarely look “typical.” Mornings start early with to-do lists, messages, and reports from the clinics. Depending on the day, I might be at the office, visiting one of the clinics in Bucharest or Corbeanca, meeting with equipment suppliers, or simply talking with colleagues or patients in the waiting area. That’s where you hear the most honest feedback about your services.

I try to keep at least one hour a day for planning. In a field that evolves so quickly, if you don’t lift your eyes from the present, you risk losing direction.

The rest of the day is usually a mix of discussions, decisions, and moments that surprise you — both positively and negatively. No matter how hard you try, there are always challenges — with staff, suppliers, or patients. Some people get upset when we refuse treatments due to clear contraindications; others accuse us of malpractice for procedures done elsewhere. We handle all of this with patience and empathy.

The best moments are when I see the results of our work — when a patient returns and says they saw real results and were treated with respect and honesty. That’s when I know all our efforts are worth it.

C&B: What values or principles guide you in what you do, and how do you apply them daily?

Alin Radu: The values that guide me haven’t changed over time — they’ve just become clearer with experience. I believe in respect, responsibility, and consistency — three simple but essential principles when you work with people.

Respect for the patient comes first. It means treating them honestly, telling them the truth even when it’s uncomfortable, and ensuring that every decision made is in their best interest.

Responsibility comes from understanding that beyond aesthetics, we’re working with people’s health and confidence. It’s not a profession that allows for compromises. Every decision, treatment, and equipment purchase must pass through an ethical filter. Consistency is what turns these principles into a real culture — doing things right, day after day, whether anyone sees it or not.

Within the team, I try to convey the same mindset: excellence isn’t a spectacular goal but the sum of small, correct actions repeated constantly. I deeply believe in authenticity — doing things out of conviction, not for appearance. In an industry where the temptation to impress is strong, I prefer to convince through seriousness, transparency, and real results.

In the end, it all comes down to respect: for the patient, for the profession, and for the people who choose to trust you.

C&B: How was the Doctor SKiN concept born, and what inspired the founding of the first clinics?

Alin Radu: The Doctor SKiN concept was born from a desire to change the way medical aesthetics is understood in Romania. We wanted to build a clinic model where science, technology, and empathy work together — not as separate elements. In a market where beauty was often seen as something superficial, we wanted to bring medical rigor, safety, and a personalized approach for each patient.

From the start, we envisioned Doctor SKiN as a brand that’s easy to understand but hard to match. Everything — from the selection of equipment and treatment protocols to the clinic atmosphere — was built around balance: between aesthetics and health, performance and naturalness.

We focused on patient experience, not just results. We wanted every person who walks in to feel safe, clearly informed, and confident they’re receiving solutions suited to their real needs.

Beyond technology and specialists, what truly sets us apart is our attention to detail and to the patient’s emotional comfort. Doctor SKiN was never meant to be just a business — it’s a place where beauty is treated with science, conscience, and respect.

C&B: How do you see the future of the aesthetics industry in Romania, and what are the expansion or innovation plans for the Doctor SKiN network?

Alin Radu: I believe the direction of medical aesthetics — in Romania and globally — is clear: naturalness, biotechnology, and personalization. People want spectacular transformations, but through solutions that preserve their expressiveness and make them look better without obvious signs of intervention. Authentic beauty is no longer measured by perfection, but by balance.

At the same time, you can’t ignore market price pressure. There are more and more cheap packages and big promises. But behind a low price, there’s often a compromise — in quality or safety. From my perspective, that’s the real challenge of the future: staying true to the principle of quality in an environment tempted by volume.

As for innovation, biotechnology will completely reshape medical aesthetics. We’re moving toward treatments that stimulate the skin’s natural processes — regeneration, collagen production, and cellular balance. Personalization is becoming essential, because every patient has their own biological map, and aesthetic medicine must respect that, not standardize it.

For us, the future isn’t just about expansion but refinement — maintaining our standards, training great people, and staying grounded in what truly matters: patient trust and safety. The rest will follow naturally.

The story of Alin Radu and Doctor SKiN is one of courage, authenticity, and vision.
