C&B: If we look at the narrative thread of your career, what were the key moments that defined you?
Iulia Rotărescu: The truth is, we never stop writing our story. For as long as I can remember, I have been in continuous exploration. Behind a well-crafted career story lies a personal journey shaped by resilience, healing, and a deep commitment to my own development. Through ownership and courage, I transformed difficulties into clarity and life’s obstacles into essential resources.
I changed my professional trajectory several times, each time with intention and consciously building my next professional milestone. I graduated from a high school that didn’t match my abilities, then studied and worked in politics, advocacy, and government relations, and ultimately specialized in marketing, communication, and public relations — where I have over ten years of experience so far. Each shift was actually a career transition that led me toward roles better aligned with my abilities, passions, and calling. Everything I learned up to a certain point propelled me into a new stage in my career, strengthened my transversal skills, and made me a better, deeper, more complete specialist.
In time, I realized that my experiences and expertise could help other people who need guidance toward a more aligned personal and career path. That’s how I started working in career coaching sessions, offering strategic personal branding consultancy, LinkedIn communication, and storytelling workshops. Today I support those who are ready to take ownership of their career and visibility with courage, offering a rare combination of strategic clarity in career, personal branding vision, and guidance anchored in real experience, learned from my own journey full of challenges.
C&B: What has been the most difficult moment in your journey so far, and how did you overcome it?
Iulia Rotărescu: I have had a life journey that was at least challenging. My father passed away when I was only five, I went through domestic violence and bullying in a society that blames victims and stigmatizes vulnerable people. I went through depression, anxiety, and insomnia, and what helped me overcome them was education — studying was my anchor in childhood and later my engine in building my career — and the fact that I never stopped fighting for myself. I went to therapy, which taught me to manage my emotions more balanced, to process them, and to work continuously on myself to maintain my wellbeing. Later I discovered coaching as a resource for developing my potential.
C&B: Is there a dream or ambition that has always guided you, regardless of obstacles?
Iulia Rotărescu: I always dreamed of a successful career. In middle school and high school, I dreamed of becoming a lawyer, and later in university I dreamed of becoming the best specialist in Romania in national security. But resources and dreams don’t always align. In the end, I chose a field of study that motivated and deeply fascinated me, I ended up working in politics, in the office of a deputy, in electoral campaigns, and although I loved it, I felt there was no future for me there. Shortly after, working in the private sector, I understood that success is built “more” meritocratically, and I needed an environment where abilities, work, and competencies dictate the future.
C&B: How did you start out, and how do you feel you have transformed over time?
Iulia Rotărescu: I have always been ambitious and had the courage to do things most people wouldn’t dare to do. I guided myself by the belief that I must act against fear. I was always hardworking, with a strong desire to show the world what I am capable of. What changed with experience and professional validation is the fact that now I no longer want to prove anything to anyone except myself. It’s a much healthier and more balanced mindset. I strengthened my strategic thinking, became confident in my abilities, I follow my ideas, and above all, I believe in my potential and in the potential of the people around me. If at the beginning I was strictly focused on success and results, gradually in recent years I have begun to focus more on people — hence the direction toward personal branding and coaching for visibility and career growth.
C&B: If we were to meet your team or collaborators, what do you think they would say about you?
Iulia Rotărescu: I probably wouldn’t like everything they say, but many things would certainly be true. They would say I am creative, capable, inventive, extremely structured and organized on one hand, but also strict, perfectionistic, authoritative, and that I don’t like losing control. That it’s important to me that things always turn out above expectations, regardless of circumstances, resources, or time. That I am passionate, idealistic, and that I want to achieve the maximum with the resources I have.
C&B: What is the most important decision you have made that changed your trajectory?
Iulia Rotărescu: I could mention several: the fact that education has always been my priority, choosing my university — which enriched my general knowledge and understanding of the world we live in — moving to Bucharest, deciding to start therapy, and most recently, choosing to train in coaching — where I am already in my second school. These are certainly turning points in my personal and professional life. And now I feel my life is already taking a new direction, a path that I am building with authenticity, deep presence, and continuous becoming.
C&B: How did you shape your leadership style or the way you make decisions? Was it a natural or learned process?
Iulia Rotărescu: All psychometric and self-awareness tests reflect my natural leadership abilities. But leading doesn’t necessarily mean being a good leader, and I have always been aware of that. My leadership style is still forming — I am searching for it — and I work a lot on myself to become a better leader while keeping my authenticity. It’s easy for me to outline the vision, shape direction, create strategy, and manage objectives, but when it comes to leadership, relationships with people matter the most — how you interact with stakeholders and the atmosphere within the team. And beyond that, the way you influence. Maybe that’s why I love coaching so much: it comes with simple rules — curiosity, listening, presence — the opposite of the traditional corporate environment where you must always be ready with all the answers. In coaching I don’t give solutions or advice, I don’t direct; instead, I trust the person in front of me and their resources to find their own answers through the right questions and reflection in my presence.
C&B: What does “personal brand” mean to you, and what steps do you consider essential for someone who wants to build one?
Iulia Rotărescu: Personal brand is who we are, how we behave, the perception others have of us, and what we intentionally and consciously choose to make visible about ourselves. Building a personal brand is a deep process of self-knowledge, defining mission and vision, identifying values, clarifying and deciding on the important aspects that give us direction in life and career. Once we clarify these and build the personal branding strategy, the next step is deciding how we communicate these things to others — to our target audience or clients.
Personal brand is created continuously through the perception others have of us, both online and offline, through our reputation, our conscious actions and behaviors, and even our unintentional ones.
C&B: What does a typical day look like for you now, and what moments bring you the most satisfaction?
Iulia Rotărescu: My objective is always to achieve the maximum with the resources I have while also offering myself wellbeing, time to recharge, and care for myself. With time, I realize more and more how important it is to spend quality time with myself: to reflect, rest, and do activities that make me feel good. I plan, prepare, and double-check my agenda and activities for the next day every evening, and in the morning I take some time for stretching or meditation for a few minutes. Then I am present in several coaching sessions where we explore the client’s career direction or professional objectives, which gives me fulfillment. Afterwards, I work on clients’ personal branding strategies, helping them increase their visibility. I end the day with a movie, a book, coloring, or exploring any other passion that brings me joy.
C&B: What values or principles guide you in what you do, and how do you apply them daily?
Iulia Rotărescu: I believe in authenticity, perspective, communication, courage, freedom, and ownership. I am who I say I am, and I support my clients in discovering what is true for them. Through the coaching, storytelling, and personal branding programs I create, I bring new perspectives and profound meanings that generate new insights and clear action directions. Through communication I generate growth, develop myself, take ownership of who I am, make my story visible to the world, and help my clients achieve the same. I am courageous in the way I act, communicate with vulnerability, and live my life with depth. At the same time, through my direct and assertive approach, through honesty and grounding in reality, I am a partner for those who want to act despite fear.
I have a very fine compass that shows me direction. When I feel something is wrong, I check which of my values are being violated or which values I haven’t been honoring. The way I feel is a clear indicator that guides me toward living my values. I believe in the freedom of an exploratory space where you can clarify your voice and rewrite or build from scratch a personal story that reflects who you truly are. Real, authentic growth comes when you do what you feel, even when you are afraid.
C&B: What are the most common blocks you notice in the people you coach, and how do you help them overcome them?
Iulia Rotărescu: Lack of clarity about the career direction to follow, the feeling that they have nothing valuable to offer, fear of change, lack of awareness of strengths and internal resources they can use for professional growth or transition, lack of awareness of transversal skills that can be transferred from one industry to another or from one profession to another.
Coaching involves working with clear, measurable, achievable, SMART objectives, as we like to say in corporations. The willingness to explore and reflect is the most important step and must come from the client. From that decision, change, clarity, and goal achievement begin. That is the key that opens the door to courage.
Afterwards, through internationally validated tools, psychometric tests, deep discussions, and practical exercises, we explore the client’s resources, strengths, and the direction they want to pursue. We set the long-term goal and begin building the growth or transition strategy. Each coaching session brings us closer to the goal, ensuring it is achievable and aligned with the client’s mission, identity, and environment.
C&B: What can personal branding do for an entrepreneur or expert who wants to be recognized in the market?
Iulia Rotărescu: It’s amazing what personal branding can do for an entrepreneur or expert who wants to position themselves and be recognized in the market. Through continuous communication and media exposure, a person can go from being completely unknown to becoming a public figure with tens of thousands of followers on social media and dozens of appearances in online press and TV shows. What matters most is the story behind it — who you are as a person, your life story, your professional experience, what makes you unique, the value you bring to the world — and the consistency with which you build your public image. What I can say is that the impact and results of building a strategic and coherent personal brand go beyond imagination.
As Iulia Rotărescu highlights, the difference between an invisible professional and one who is recognized in their industry lies in how they tell their story, in their consistency, and in their ability to deliver real value.
