Constanța Casino and Art Safari present “She: The Queen and the Sea”

A unique exhibition exploring Queen Marie’s bond with the Black Sea

Constanța Casino has announced a new exhibition in partnership with Art Safari. “She: The Queen and the Sea” explores the deep connection between Queen Marie of Romania and the Black Sea, a setting for some of the most meaningful moments of her life. The exhibition opens in March in the Casino’s Hall of Mirrors.

Marking the first such exhibition since the Casino’s reopening in May 2025, the project also commemorates 100 years since the construction of the royal residence in Mamaia. An Art Nouveau landmark and a symbol of Romania’s seaside heritage, the Casino becomes the stage for a cultural premiere.

“We are honored to mark an absolute first in 2026: the inaugural collaboration between Art Safari and the Constanța Casino, an architectural symbol recently restored to the cultural circuit. ‘She: The Queen and the Sea’ is both a tribute to Queen Marie’s profound bond with the seaside and our way of celebrating the rebirth of this iconic building. We hope that in the summer of 2026, art becomes a destination in its own right, perfectly complementing the marine landscape,” said Ioana Ciocan, Managing Partner at Art Safari.

For Queen Marie, the sea was a constant source of inspiration. Her Balchik residence, built between 1925 and 1930 on the southern Black Sea coast, served as her preferred retreat. Earlier, she sought solace at Cara Dalga (“Black Wave”), later gifted to Princess Helen. The Mamaia villa, designed by architect Mario Stoppa, remains a landmark of Romania’s coast.

The exhibition will showcase, for the first time, a selection of Queen Marie’s personal belongings—decorative items, clothing, jewelry and everyday objects—alongside artworks on loan from private and museum collections, recreating the intimate atmosphere of her seaside residences. Further details will be announced on cazinoul.com and artsafari.ro.
