Kinderpedia raises €2.2m in open funding round, strengthens global expansion

Kinderpedia, a Romania-built communication and management platform for schools and kindergartens, has secured €2.2 million so far in a funding round targeting a total of €3.5 million, according to ZF. The round remains open for additional investors for about six more months and is led by Simpact Ventures. This marks the company’s first major funding in five years, following a €1.8 million round closed in October 2021 and led by Early Game Ventures, with participation from RocaX, Growceanu, and business angels.

“We have raised €2.2 million so far from a €3.5 million round that remains open for another half year,” said Evelina Necula, Kinderpedia co-founder and CMO, at the Romanian Startup Summit in Timișoara.

International scale and recurring revenues

Kinderpedia currently reports annual recurring revenues (ARR) exceeding €1.7 million and serves more than 2,000 educational institutions across 40 countries. Its community now exceeds 500,000 users, including teachers, students, and parents. In 2021, the platform had around 200,000 users in 14 countries; international expansion has since driven growth, with users outside Romania accounting for roughly 40% of the total.

According to Necula, the five-year gap between funding rounds required strict discipline rather than comfort. “There were moments when investor support ended and we had to ask whether Kinderpedia could stand on its own. The answer was yes, but it came at a cost,” she said.

The decision to raise fresh capital reflects a fast-changing edtech landscape. “Once you reach break-even and can operate independently, the question becomes whether to raise again. Our answer was yes. We do not want to be a platform launched in 2015 that only grew incrementally. We want to remain disruptors,” Necula added.
