Romanian Post outlines partial digital strategy and urban investments

The CEO of Poșta Română, Valentin Ștefan, addressed the institution’s strategic direction in a Reddit discussion, according to Wall-Street. He considers full digitalization of postal services unrealistic, while emphasizing that the organization is undergoing one of its fastest transformation periods in decades.

Asked whether services will become fully digital, Valentin Ștefan stated that this scenario is not feasible. “The role of the Romanian Post is to serve the approximately 5 million Romanians who choose to benefit from services without a digital system behind them,” he said.

Paper reduction targets and infrastructure upgrades

Users also raised concerns about parcel notifications delivered as paper slips that sometimes arrive late. The CEO rejected these claims and stated that the institution operates “the most modern customs clearance system in the industry and there is no delay on our side.”

Although full digital transformation is not planned, modernization efforts continue. Valentin Ștefan estimates a significant reduction in paper consumption: “I estimate that this year we will have paper consumption at half the level recorded in 2021.”

Management has closed certain rural offices and redirected investments toward urban centers. Over 100 million lei have been invested in buildings in Timișoara, Oradea, Cluj, Piatra-Neamț and Bucharest. Valentin Ștefan has led the institution since 2021 and maintains that its mission remains focused on supporting citizens who do not rely on digital services, alongside infrastructure modernization.
