SetSail sees rising interest from business leaders

SetSail, a Romanian sailing school, reports growing interest from corporate leaders, according to Revista Cariere. In 2025, around 350 participants enrolled in its theoretical and practical programs, with approximately 75% being managers, entrepreneurs or corporate professionals.

Since its founding 16 years ago, more than 4,300 people have completed SetSail courses. Compared to the early years, when annual attendance ranged between 60 and 80 students, participation has increased by over 500%, reflecting the rising popularity of recreational sailing in Romania.

Theoretical modules take place in Bucharest and Limanu (Mangalia), while practical training is conducted in Limanu Port on the Black Sea. The school provides full courses for all boat license categories, targeting both beginners and experienced sailors.

“Navigation is not just a hobby or a relaxing experience. At sea, you learn to make quick decisions, communicate clearly and coordinate a team in unpredictable situations. These skills are just as valuable in business and in personal life. The growing interest among managers, entrepreneurs and professionals shows that sailing is not just a sport, but a form of personal and professional development. At SetSail, we aimed to build a community of sea enthusiasts who grow together with us, and today we can say this vision is taking shape.”, said Ovidiu Drugan, founder and instructor at SetSail.

Courses, team building and Greek expeditions

For 2026, SetSail has scheduled seven Yachting C D S course sessions, offering certifications for coastal navigation up to six nautical miles, inland waters navigation and sailing. Sessions will take place between February 23 – March 5, May 4 – 14, June 8 – 11, July 6 – 9, August 3 – 6, August 30 – September 2 and September 21 – October 1.

The school also organizes corporate team-building programs focused on communication, leadership and decision-making in unexpected situations.

Twice a year, SetSail hosts the Cyclades Sailing School Expeditions in Greece. In May 2025, over 400 Romanian sailors participated aboard around 60 boats, including monohulls and catamarans. Most skippers were SetSail graduates.
