HEINEKEN România has completed an investment of approximately €12 million aimed at modernizing production processes through the implementation of advanced energy solutions in its breweries in Craiova and Ungheni.
The project, carried out in partnership with ENGIE Building Solutions, involves the installation of high-capacity heat pumps designed to reduce energy consumption and improve operational efficiency. Part of the investment is supported by non-reimbursable funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Energy efficiency and emissions reduction
The new systems enable the production of hot water used directly in the pasteurization process, one of the most energy-intensive stages in beer production. This integration makes processes more efficient, stable, and less dependent on conventional energy sources.
Based on energy audit estimates, the solution is expected to deliver over 40% reduction in energy consumption for targeted processes compared to 2022 levels, while avoiding approximately 3,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, calculated under the GHG Protocol.
“By integrating energy recovery technologies into our production processes, we increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact,” said Boris Miloushev, Managing Director of the company.
HEINEKEN is one of the world’s leading brewers, with a portfolio of over 300 international, regional, and local brands.
In Romania, the company has been active since 2003, operating breweries in Craiova, Ungheni, and Miercurea Ciuc, while continuing investments in sustainability and operational efficiency.
