Hidroelectrica has launched a procurement procedure for the design, supply, and installation of equipment for the Nehoiașu II Hydropower Plant, part of the Surduc–Siriu hydropower development, according to Forbes.

The contract is estimated at approximately €49.5 million, excluding VAT, and represents a key step in expanding renewable energy capacity.
Turnkey contract and timeline
The contract will be awarded on a turnkey basis, covering design, manufacturing, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and staff training.
The estimated implementation period is 44 months, with works carried out in Buzău, Vrancea, and Covasna counties.
Energy infrastructure investment
The project includes installing a complete hydropower unit (turbine, generator, automation and protection systems), auxiliary hydromechanical equipment, expansion of the 110 kV substation, and integration of SCADA systems, along with communication and security infrastructure.
CEO Bogdan Badea stated that the project will enhance renewable energy production and improve the flexibility of the National Energy System.
Strategic green energy project
Nehoiașu II is part of the Surduc–Siriu hydropower development, one of the company’s most important projects, essential for completing the Surduc–Nehoiașu hydropower stage.
Hidroelectrica is Romania’s largest renewable energy producer, operating 188 hydropower plants (6.4 GW) and the Crucea wind farm (108 MW).
