Kaufland is the main partner of Transylvania Open, Romania’s most important women’s tennis tournament, part of the WTA250 category. According to Cariere magazine, the retailer is enhancing this year’s competition with a social responsibility initiative, introducing the tournament’s “Unofficial Ball” and the Open Heart campaign, focused on inclusion.
The “Unofficial Ball” is not used in official matches but serves as a symbol of how sport can create impact beyond competition.

Available between January 31 and February 7, it can be purchased on-site by ticket holders via a dedicated vending machine or online through the Caiac SMile Sports Club Association. Each purchase represents a donation that supports access to sport for people with disabilities.
Kaufland will double the total amount raised, with funds directed to the Caiac SMile Sports Club Association to support social inclusion and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The initiative builds on Kaufland’s broader inclusion commitment, reflected in its A.C.C.E.S. program, which already includes over 500 employees with disabilities nationwide.
“The Unofficial Ball is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the inclusion of people with disabilities and the importance of access to an active life, including through sport. Sport supports physical and mental health and creates essential social contexts,” said Estera Anghelescu, Director of Recruitment and Employer Branding at Kaufland Romania.
The project continues Kaufland’s “Servește Inspirație” initiative, developed together with the Romanian Tennis Federation, focused on supporting sports performance and promoting strong female role models.
