Profi has integrated the payment orchestration solution developed by Symphopay across its entire store network in Romania, according to Wall-Street.
Operationally, the project required ensuring payment system stability in all locations, delivering a fast and seamless checkout experience for customers, integrating automated reconciliation processes in back-end systems across all partner banks, and executing a rapid rollout in every store.

Through Symphopay’s solution, Profi completed the full integration of its 1,750 stores nationwide within six weeks, alongside the automation of internal payment reconciliation flows.
The platform enables multi-bank payment orchestration, intelligent transaction routing and plug-and-play infrastructure compatible with merchant systems. This setup improves transaction approval rates, reduces operational costs and provides full visibility and control over payment flows.
Each POS terminal benefits from dual connectivity – Ethernet and GSM – while the payment application monitors network status in real time. In the event of a disruption, the system automatically switches to the secondary connection without losing the transaction, without human intervention and without impacting checkout operations.
Transactions are securely processed as soon as connectivity is restored, in a way that is entirely imperceptible to the customer. At the same time, the intelligent rerouting mechanism allows automatic switching between banks within milliseconds, optimizing approval rates and processing costs.
“We designed the fallback mechanism so that payments continue to be processed even in the event of connectivity interruptions. The system monitors network status in real time and automatically switches to a secondary connection or another processor, without intervention at POS level and without affecting checkout flow. Our objective was to give retailers control over infrastructure-related risks and ensure operational continuity, without introducing additional processes for in-store staff,” said Sebastian Ioniță, Co-founder & Managing Partner at Symphopay.
Following the implementation, Profi benefits from 100% payment uptime, including during peak periods with traffic exceeding 30 transactions per second, integration with multiple banks, automated reconciliation and a seamless payment experience for customers. A key achievement was the rapid deployment across all 1,750 units within six weeks, without interrupting store operations.
Previously, Symphopay was selected to manage complex payment and settlement flows by retailers such as eMAG, Sameday, FAN Courier and by shopping center owners including NEPI Rockcastle.
