A communications satellite developed by a Romanian consortium has been launched into orbit aboard a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX. The satellite, named EMISAR, lifted off at 14:02 (Romania time) from Vandenberg Space Force Base as part of the Transporter 16 mission, alongside more than 110 payloads, according to Forbes.
Developed in under two years
EMISAR was built in less than two years by a consortium led by the Institute of Space Science (part of INFLPR), in partnership with Romanian InSpace Engineering, RARTEL and the Constanta Maritime University.

Each partner contributed distinct components, including system design, communications, and antenna development.
Technology demonstration mission
The satellite serves as a technology demonstrator, testing a Store-and-Forward system.
It collects data from ground stations, stores it onboard, and retransmits it during subsequent orbital passes.
Ground infrastructure
Operations are supported by two ground stations: ISS Măgurele and the Constanta Maritime University.
