The city of Sibiu has launched a tender for the construction of a 5 MW photovoltaic park in the Dealul Gușteriței area, with an estimated cost of RON 33 million, according to information reported by Economedia.
The project will be financed through the Modernisation Fund, using European funding, and is expected to be completed within seven months after the contract is signed with the winning contractor.
The solar park is expected to generate approximately 6,500–7,000 MWh of electricity per year, covering about 70% of the municipality’s electricity needs for public lighting, public buildings such as schools and kindergartens, administrative offices and institutions under the Local Council.

Over 9,000 solar panels installed on five hectares
The project involves installing more than 9,000 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels on an area of over five hectares in the Dealul Gușteriței zone.
The initiative is part of the city’s strategy to reduce energy costs and increase the use of renewable energy in local infrastructure.
Romanian cities increasingly invest in green energy
Sibiu is not the only Romanian city developing its own renewable energy sources. Brașov is currently building what is expected to be the largest municipal photovoltaic park in Romania, with a capacity of 20 MW, located in the Stupini area.
The Brașov project is expected to cover around 90% of the energy consumption of schools, administrative buildings, public lighting and even electric public transport.
