Romania launches first digital career advisor amid education challenges

Amid ongoing challenges such as functional illiteracy and rapid technological transformation, a research team from Centrul Universitar Nord din Baia Mare, part of Universitatea Tehnică din Cluj-Napoca, has launched Romania’s first digital career advisor. The application, called Career & University Navigator, is designed to support high school graduates in choosing their academic and professional paths, according to Wall-Street.

A national academic innovation

The tool was introduced during UTCN’s Career Days event and represents a national IT premiere, being the first intelligent agent developed within a Romanian academic environment, with technological support from Holisun.

The application is available directly through the ChatGPT interface and provides personalized recommendations for education and career paths.

Broad educational recommendations

According to the developers, the recommendations primarily target Romanian universities but also include European and global options, offering users a broader perspective on available opportunities.

A different approach to career guidance

Unlike traditional vocational tests, the application delivers a complex analysis that connects users’ skills, psychological profile, and personal aspirations.

This approach aims to provide more relevant guidance in a context where career decisions are becoming increasingly complex.

Context: decision pressure in an uncertain era

Research team coordinator Oliviu Matei highlighted the challenges faced by young people:
“Despite having access to more information than any previous generation, many experience high levels of anxiety when choosing a university and career, due to technological change and labor market uncertainty.”

Future development

The project is the result of collaboration among UTCN researchers, with future plans focused on expanding the application’s capabilities.

Next steps include integrating advanced conversational interaction features, tailored for everyday use.
