Romania’s Ministry of Economy has announced a clear timeline for the implementation of electronic signatures, a key component of the future digital identity system, according to Economedia. Economy Minister Irineu Darău said authorities aim to remove existing bottlenecks and ensure effective use of electronic signatures in public and private interactions.
“Over the next one to two months, we have a concrete roadmap: issuing the implementing rules for Law 214; amending the law to align it with eIDAS 2.0; and adjusting secondary regulations so that the rules are clear and easy to apply,” Darău said.

He added that the focus has been on addressing real obstacles, inconsistent interpretations, and the changes needed for digitalization to function properly.
“Success will not be measured only by published regulations, but by how easy it becomes for individuals and companies to interact with the state, how much time they save, and how much trust they gain. This is a key step toward making digitalization truly effective in everyday life,” the minister stated.
Digital ID ecosystem targeted for completion
Authorities reiterated plans to complete the electronic ID card–electronic signature–digital wallet ecosystem this year. Presidential adviser Radu Burnete emphasized that faster digitalization and administrative reform are essential to improving public service quality and eliminating delays.
“There is strong coordination at the highest level, and institutions must understand that waiting is no longer an option. Completing this ecosystem this year is a clear priority,” Burnete said.
