Energy surplus and grid pressure

Germany is increasingly facing situations where solar output exceeds demand, leading to lower electricity prices and pressure on the grid.

Role of batteries

According to Christian Schmidt, battery integration allows excess energy generated at midday to be stored and used during peak demand hours.

Subsidy cuts and grid challenges

Reforms are also expected to include reduced subsidies for solar energy, as grid expansion has lagged behind renewable growth.

According to Barbie Haller, balancing costs could reach €3.7 billion this year.

System risks

Authorities warn that poorly integrated storage systems could create instability, especially when used for energy arbitrage.
