An inspiring interview with Laurențiu Radu, “The Carpenter with the Radio,” a modern craftsman who transforms wood into art and has built an internationally recognized Romanian brand. Discover his journey, values, and creative process behind unique wood and resin pieces.
Laurențiu Radu, also known as “The Carpenter with the Radio” („Tâmplaru cu Radio”) is a husband, father, and entrepreneur who has transformed his passion for wood into a nationally and internationally recognized brand. He firmly believes that when you love what you do and trust your own abilities, success becomes a natural consequence. For him, evolution means having the courage to step out of your comfort zone and the constant desire to grow, guided by the conviction that “we cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are.”

C&B: How did your passion for woodworking begin, and what inspired you to combine this craft with epoxy resin?
Laurențiu Radu: It all started as a hobby that I gradually turned into a successful business. I discovered epoxy resin because it offers extra durability and a spectacular look, different from anything else on the market. Each piece created in my workshop is unique — a combination of the natural wood texture and the finesse of the resin, resulting in objects that tell a personalized story for every client.
C&B: What were the key moments that defined your professional journey?
Laurențiu Radu: Progress came step by step, through work, discipline, and the desire to learn. Among the most important moments were attending entrepreneurship seminars, relocating to larger spaces to optimize production, perfecting finishing techniques, and identifying suppliers who meet my quality standards. All these stages contributed to the growth of the “Carpenter with the Radio” brand.
C&B: What major challenges did you encounter in developing your workshop, and how did you overcome them?
Laurențiu Radu: As the workshop expanded, I had to learn about organization, planning, and resource management. I deepened my knowledge of business models, cash flow, and scaling to build a solid foundation. Together with my team, we continue to constantly improve.
C&B: Is there a dream or ambition that has guided you regardless of the obstacles?
Laurențiu Radu: I always believed that if you enjoy what you do and trust yourself, you will succeed. For me, wood is more than a material — it is a canvas through which I transform clients’ wishes into authentic creations that blend functionality and aesthetics.
C&B: What did the beginning of your journey look like, and how do you feel you have transformed since then?
Laurențiu Radu: At the beginning, everything was built with effort and hope. I invested in tools and materials, sometimes being considered “crazy” for having the courage to follow my dream. Today, I am recognized nationally for the quality of my products and for the unique style through which I turn wood into a practical form of art with its own identity.

C&B: What do you think your team and collaborators would say about you?
Laurențiu Radu: I have a good relationship with my team and collaborators. Open communication, mutual respect, and joint involvement in projects are the elements that define us. I believe they would say that I am demanding but fair, and always solution-oriented.
C&B: What is the most important decision that changed your professional trajectory?
Laurențiu Radu: Participating in the TV show Imperiul Leilor and the subsequent collaborations with brands such as DeWalt, Stanley Black & Decker, and Epodur were decisive moments. These experiences validated my work and opened new growth opportunities.
C&B: What was the most difficult project, and what lessons did you learn from it?
Laurențiu Radu: The most difficult project was creating a custom Dune-themed table. Due to an error during resin pouring, the exothermic reaction ruined the final piece, which forced me to redo everything using my own resources. I learned a lot from that experience — I implemented a clear work protocol, purchased special equipment to control pouring conditions, and raised the technical verification standards.
C&B: How does the creation process for a resin table unfold, from choosing the wood to the final finish?
Laurențiu Radu: Everything starts with the careful selection of wood, chosen for its texture, shape, and character. Then comes preparation, sanding, and getting the piece ready for pouring. The epoxy resin is applied carefully, layer by layer, and the final finishing highlights the natural details of the wood. Each stage requires precision, patience, and a clear vision of the final result.
C&B: What does a typical day look like for you, and what are the most satisfying moments?
Laurențiu Radu: The day begins with planning activities and establishing priorities. The most beautiful moments are when a client sees their finished table for the first time and recognizes a part of their own story in it. That genuine reaction is the greatest professional reward.
C&B: What values guide you in your daily activity?
Laurențiu Radu: Passion, perseverance, and the desire to constantly evolve. I love what I do, I trust my own abilities, but I don’t hesitate to step out of my comfort zone when I know I can grow. I sincerely believe that “we cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are” — a conviction that has helped me surpass my limits.
C&B: When did you decide to turn this passion into a business, and how was the “Carpenter with the Radio” brand born?
Laurențiu Radu: It all began in the dressing room of my daughter’s bedroom, where I set up my first workshop. As the projects grew, I transformed the living room into a showroom and moved the workshop into the garage. The first object in the workshop was a radio that kept me company during all the hours of creation — that’s where the name “Carpenter with the Radio” comes from.
From the first wooden cutting boards, I have grown to produce dining tables, coffee tables, chess sets, backgammon boards, and personalized pieces created according to the client’s wishes but through the lens of my own vision.
C&B: How do you select materials, and what criteria do you consider essential for quality and uniqueness?
Laurențiu Radu: Each piece of wood is chosen individually for its texture and natural shape. Imperfections are not hidden but highlighted — they give the product its identity. We use high-quality epoxy resin selected according to the pouring thickness, and decorative elements (boats, houses, natural elements, etc.) are chosen together with the client. For the 3D details, we collaborate with professional painters to achieve an authentic finish.
C&B: What are the development plans for “Carpenter with the Radio” in the coming years?
Laurențiu Radu: The next step is scaling the business to an international level, entering the U.S. market, and opening a showroom in Bucharest. The goal is to make the “Carpenter with the Radio” brand known not only for its products but for the complete experience offered to every client.
Laurențiu Radu’s story proves that passion, perseverance, and the courage to step outside your comfort zone can turn a simple hobby into a brand with identity and recognition. “The Carpenter with the Radio” continues to inspire through dedication, creativity, and a constant drive to evolve — a powerful example for anyone who believes in the strength of their own dreams.
